Location recording
Location recording is a high-quality multitrack recording outside of a studio. The producer/musician has the opportunity to choose the location taking into account the room acoustics and the needs of the project. That way, the musician feels that he is in a familiar surrounding and has absolute freedom to express his artistry.
Sometimes, the musicians in a recording studio find themselves in an unfamiliar environment, having the pressure of time to complete the project and this causes an undesired result.
We are trained and experienced to convert almost every location into a proper recording environment, without the high cost of a recording studio offering state of the art audio equipment and services.
To whom we are addressing to
We are addressing to anyone who is interested in a location recording, to musicians and producers who want to capture the atmosphere and special acoustic characteristics of a venue, or anyone who wants to record in a friendly environment. We use either the live recording technique or the technique of overdubs.
We are also addressing to anyone who want to record a live performance such as concerts, theatrical performances, corporate events etc
Reasons to choose a location recording
- It gives complete freedom of expression for the musician and producer.
Choosing a space for recording outside of a recording studio, the musicians and the producer feel comfortable and familiar which adds to their creativity and imagination, resulting in uncompromised freedom in their artistic expression. This adds to the production a special, positive psychoacoustic effect which is perceived by the listener.
- Taking advantage of the special acoustic characteristics of a recording space
There are various spaces where their acoustic characteristics can enhance significantly to the final result of the music production. The decision depends on on the music genre, the instruments included in the recording and the style of the production.
Basic location recording stages we apply are:
Pre production
- Communication with the musicians or the producer to obtain the desired result of the project.
- Listening the material that will be recorded. We attend the rehearsals and we record it or we listen to a pre-recorded material. This will identify potential problems that need to be resolved before the actual location recording.
- Visiting and evaluating the space for its suitability, predicting possible problems that will occur during the recording, suggesting solutions.
- Creating a timetable which describes the stages of recording and arranging the procedure with the respective parties involved. (musicians, producer)
Production
- Proper placement of instruments and musicians in the space based on the desired result.
- Positioning microphones properly in order to make a correct sound recording and to deal with possible problems.
- Use of separating baffles and soundproof panels where necessary.
- Test recordings to make the necessary adjustments.
- Accomplish the recording.
